Where to start? This is all over the web today. I will just provide the links that I find while surfing. It does seem as if the curtain has been pulled back, and the Wizard of Oz has been exposed. (Thank you, Toto!)
- Andrew Bolt from the Australian Herald Sun is all over this.
- Blog Critics: Global Warming Fraud Exposed as Copenhagen Approaches.
- Steve McIntyre from Climate Audit reports.
- Bishop Hill has many columns up.
- The Washington Post: Hackers steal electronic data from top climate research center.
- From the UK Daily Mail Online: Hackers “expose global warming con.”
- New York Times: Hacked E-Mail is New Fodder for Climate Dispute.
- Dr. Roy Spencer: Global Warming’s Blue Dress Moment?
- What’s Up With That? is all over this, too.
- There is also a search engine where you can search through the alleged hacked emails.

- From Jay Hancock at the Baltimore Sun: Climate scientists are petty, vindictive.
Of course, bloggers are out there combing the web for new stuff on this.
Not related to the conspiracy, but Salon had a column on Thursday: Scientists baffled by Global Warming’s time-out. Well, shucks, if the data has been fixed and the scientists duped, maybe the bafflement will subside.

Have the beans been spilled on global warming? Is this even bigger than the Enron phone calls manipulating the energy markets?
From the New York Times:
“Hundreds of private e-mails and documents hacked from a computer server at a British university are causing a stir among global warming skeptics, who say they show that climate scientists conspired to overstate the case for a human influence on climate change.
“The e-mails, attributed to prominent American and British climate researchers, include discussions of scientific data and whether it should be released, exchanges about how best to combat the arguments of skeptics, and casual comments — in some cases derisive — about specific people known for their skeptical views. Drafts of scientific papers and a photo collage that portrays climate skeptics on an ice floe were also among the hacked data, some of which dates back 13 years.
“In one e-mail exchange, a scientist writes of using a statistical ‘trick’ in a chart illustrating a recent sharp warming trend. In another, a scientist refers to climate skeptics as ‘idiots’.”
You know Dr. Roy Spencer would weigh in on this:
“While it is too early to tell just yet, there seems to be considerable damning evidence that data have been hidden or destroyed to avoid Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) data requests; data have been manipulated in order to get results that best suit the pro-anthropogenic global warming agenda of the IPCC; e-mails that contain incriminating discussions are being deleted. And, on the bright side, we skeptics seem to be quite a thorn in the side of the IPCC.
“In reading these e-mails from the ‘other side’ of the scientific debate I am particularly amazed at the mindset of a few of these scientists. I exchange e-mails with other like-minded (read ‘skeptical’) scientists, as do the IPCC scientists with their peers. But never do I hear of anyone manipulating climate data to achieve a certain end. I must say that I am pleased to see that NCAR scientist Kevin Trenberth admits that it is a ‘travesty’ that no one can explain the lack of global warming in recent years.
“I think there is a good chance that this was an inside job…either a disgruntled employee at CRU, or someone who is simply getting fed up with the politicization of the IPCC’s science and wanted to reveal some of the inner workings of the IPCC process. I’m sure that further revelations will arise in the coming days.”
There they go again. A blogger at the left-wing blog Think Progress attacks Governor Tim Pawlenty.
Speaking to the Economist recently, Gov. Tim Pawlenty (R-MN) told reporters that he questions the science underpinning climate change. Pawlenty explained that while the earth might be warming, it is unclear “to what extent that is the result of natural causes.”
Blogger Lee Fang then goes the usual lefty binge with “tea party” this and “tea party” that, followed by some previous quotes by the governor where he made some comments about clean energy and wanting to reduce greenhouse gases.
While Think Progress has been distracted by the “tea parties,” they seem to have missed out on some recent science news.
Habibullo Abdussamatov, the top guy at the space research unit of St. Petersburg’s Pulkovo Astronomical Observatory in Russia, has published a paper that concludes it is the sun’s irradiance that’s the primary factor responsible for earth’s climate variations, not carbon dioxide.
Then there’s this from Leighton Steward:
“Much of the global warming debate has focused on reducing CO2 emissions because it is thought that the greenhouse gas produced mostly from fossil fuels is warming the planet. But Steward, who once believed CO2 caused global warming, is trying to fight that with a mountain of studies and scientific evidence that suggest CO2 is not the cause for warming. What’s more, he says CO2 levels are so low that more, not less, is needed to sustain and expand plant growth.
It seems as if Pawlenty may be the one taking a more open-minded view of current events and listening to what science has to say about climate change.
Over the past several years, it appeared that our society was doomed to succumb to what Weather Channel founder John Coleman has described as “the greatest scam in history”: anthropogenic (human-caused) global warming (AGW). For two decades there has been an incessant drumbeat of propaganda attributing every weather-related event to an increase in carbon dioxide caused by the burning of fossil fuels. With the election of a president who is solidly in the global-warming-alarmist camp — and with many high-level appointees who are bona fide climate-change alarmists — coupled with a Democratic legislature anxious to please their environmentalist and media benefactors, the passage of legislation causing some form of economy-crippling energy taxation seemed to be a foregone conclusion.
But then came the unexpected: a recession brought on and exacerbated by the heavy hand of government, and a second consecutive severe winter. Indeed, we may look back and see that our current financial crisis and Mother Nature were the saviors of free-market capitalism. They may have slowed the statist steamroller long enough for the proponents of climate realism to make such socialistic schemes as “cap and trade” understood for what they are and what they are not. They are not about anything to do with global warming or climate change. They are instead a massive transfer of wealth from the productive to those who will not adopt free markets.
Maybe the public is finally catching on to the scam.
“Never waste a good crisis” – Hillary Clinton
Secretary of State Hillary Clinton told an audience Friday “never waste a good crisis,” and highlighted the opportunity of rebuilding economies in a greener, less energy-intensive way.
Clinton told young Europeans at the European Parliament that global economic turmoil provided a fresh opening. “Never waste a good crisis … Don’t waste it when it can have a very positive impact on climate change and energy security,” she said.
Democrats are seizing on your misfortune for their own political advantage. A fiscal responsibility summit that promises trillions in new deficit spending. Raising your taxes to “spread the wealth” to their political donors.
Meanwhile, does global warming even exist? Read the following from Discovery News:
“. . . according to a new study in Geophysical Research Letters, global warming may have hit a speed bump and could go into hiding for decades. Earth’s climate continues to confound scientists. Following a 30-year trend of warming, global temperatures have flatlined since 2001 despite rising greenhouse gas concentrations, and a heat surplus that should have cranked up the planetary thermostat.” – Michael Reilly
I think the Democrats know that the science is against them, so they are trying to use the economic crisis at hand to make their move.
